Stjórn HRFÍ setti sig í dag í samband við Kínverska Sendiráðið á Íslandi og mótmælti harðlega “hátíð um hundaát” sem er árlegur viðburður í Yulin í Kína.  Stjórn lýsti andúð á athæfinu og hvatti til þess að yfirvöld gripu í taumana og stöðvuðu óhugnaðinn sem þarna ætti sér stað.  Að sama skapi setti stjórn sig í samband við Kínverska hundaræktarfélagið og lýsti afstöðu sinnar til hátíðarinnar og hvatti félagið til að berjast harkalega gegn þessum árlegu misþyrmingum og lýsti stuðningi við slíkri baráttu.

Tölvupóstur stjórnar var eftirfarandi:  

Dear China Kennel Union,

We at the Icelandic Kennel Club are saddened to learn that the Yulin “Dog Meat Festival” still exists in the modern civilized society of China. We believe that this event has no place in the 21st century. We adamantly voice our strong opposition to this barbaric “festival”.  We are hoping and trusting that you are actively campaigning against this horrific tradition, and for your government to do the humane thing to stop this festival and thereby save the lives of countless dogs that will fall victim to this event – an event where thousands of innocent dogs will be butchered, skinned alive, beaten to death , leading to increased the abduction of strays and pets, and also  maintaining the market for the torturous, inhumane prisons of dog meat farms – all of which will leave a stain upon the image of your country.  We also want to state that we support you in your campaign and if no active campaign is being fought we do urge you to do all in your power to put an end to this animal cruelty.
